Measuring Success

25th February 2022

FS1 children have been exploring length using non-standard units of measurements with ropes, threads, cubes, coloured pencils, counting bears and Lego. They used these items to measure different lines, pictures, feet and other objects.

The children used the different items to make comparisons of what is tall and short and were able to notice that the giraffe was a tall animal, whilst the mouse was short.

To help the children understand how everyone is different, they measured their heights and then graphed the data that they collected. The graph allowed the children to quickly and easily appreciate their differences from the data collected. Aspart of these maths lessons, children learnt that a ruler contains information which can be used to make measurements.
