Mystery at Magpie Manor

11th October 2024

This week, Year 5 and 6 pupils wowed parents and pupils with their performance of Mystery at Magpie Manor. The play was set in a 1920s manor house in which its occupants had fallen upon hard times. Lord and Lady Pica had to resort to desperate measures in order to raise funds to make repairs to the ailing house by deciding to auction off the valuable Pica Pica solid silver pitcher with the magpie picture.

The pitcher was to be auctioned off at a grand ball attended by the rich and famous. Guests included Charlie Chaplin, Albert Einstein, The Prince of Wales and Agatha Christie. And it’s lucky that Ms Christie was in attendance as when the pitcher was unveiled it had mysteriously gone missing!

An investigation was swiftly underway and it became clear that the inspector hired by Lord and Lady Pica, Ex-Inspector Spectre of the Yard, was determined to be the culprit. Thank goodness for Ms Christie and her super sleuth skills which saved the day. Luckily enough, the Pica Pica treasure trove was also rediscovered after being lost for many years, which meant that the Manor could be saved without having to resort to selling the Pica Pica solid silver pitcher with the magpie picture.

The children worked tirelessly to make the production a roaring success in just five weeks (far less if you count the sporting and scouts excursions that many of the cast went on during that period!). Its success is testament to the perseverance and resilience of both children and staff and they should all be very proud of their efforts!

The only thing that is left for them to do is spend the mid-term break trying to get the catchy songs out of their heads.
