This half term, our Year 3 geographers have been learning all about the world’s rainforests. The children showed great interest in the topic and quickly learnt the different types of rainforests and how they are structured.
A big part of their learning was understanding the four layers of the rainforest. They didn’t just learn their names, they explored what each layer is like, the climate, and the animals that live there. They also researched how different animals are able to survive in their specific layers, from the dark forest floor to the bright emergent layer at the top.

The topic ended with an exciting Art project. The children used what they had learnt to create beautiful Rainforest Dioramas. Each diorama showed all the layers of the rainforest, and many of the children carefully placed the correct animals in the right layers.
The class also worked together to make a large rainforest display. Every child contributed to a different part of the board, and the final result was colourful, informative, and a great example of their teamwork.

A special highlight of the term was a visit from Ms Anne-Marie. She shared amazing stories about her research work in the Borneo rainforest. The children were fascinated and gained a real understanding of why rainforests are so important. We are very grateful to her for visiting and sharing her experiences.
