During Year 1's International Fortnight, the children were immersed in the vibrant culture of Nepal. They engaged in hands-on activities like crafting intricate flower garlands, mirroring the festive decorations seen in Nepali homes. They studied Nepal's national flag, learning about its symbolism and the stories it tells about the country's history. This interactive approach sparked their curiosity and laid a strong foundation for understanding Nepal's rich heritage.
Guided by their teachers and inspired by a visit from a Nepalese parent, the children learnt Nepal's geographical and cultural landscape. Fascinating facts about Nepal's geography, including its towering mountains like Mount Everest, captivated their imaginations. They transformed their classroom into a mini Himalayan landscape, fostering a deeper appreciation for the natural wonders of Nepal. Additionally, they explored Nepalese wildlife through creative storytelling, weaving folk tales that reflected the country's biodiversity.
The classroom was transformed into a colourful display of Nepalese culture, from flower garlands to handcrafted flags. Visitors, including parents and the children, were treated to a journey through Nepal as the children passionately shared their discoveries.
This culminating event not only celebrated their exploration but also instilled in them a sense of cultural appreciation and pride in their collaborative achievements.
