In November, Year 3 eagerly anticipated their trip to Ngare Ndare Forest to conclude their rainforest studies. Due to heavy rainfall, the trip was postponed to the following term for safety reasons. The wait was worthwhile, as the children had an unforgettable experience exploring the forest. They identified the forest's layers: emergent, canopy, understorey, and forest floor, and compared them to a classic rainforest, noting key similarities and differences. This hands-on learning deepened their understanding of rainforest ecosystems.
A highlight of the trip was the canopy walk, a thrilling experience that left everyone buzzing with excitement. Many children surprised themselves by conquering their initial misgivings about walking so high above the ground. Others, who had underestimated the challenge, discovered just how much courage it took to step out onto the suspended walkway. Regardless of how they felt at the start, all the children were proud of themselves for completing the ‘sky-walk’ and were visibly relieved to return to solid ground.
After the canopy walk, the group took a short drive to a picturesque picnic site, where they enjoyed their packed lunches and had a chance to dip their feet in the cool shallows. This relaxing interlude was the perfect way to round off the adventure before heading back to school.
The trip not only reinforced the children’s learning but also provided an opportunity for personal growth as they overcame fears and embraced new challenges. It was a memorable day that will undoubtedly be talked about for months to come!
