Maths - Number Work in Year 2

2nd October 2020

Since the beginning of this term, the Year 2 children continue to develop their understanding of place value in two-digit numbers. They recently investigated ‘tens’ and ‘ones’ and went ahead to explore complex partitioning using visual resources (images and representations). The children are now grasping the learning concepts using this strategy. They can now identify and represent numbers in different ways, such as: using the part-whole model, base 10, numicon, number lines, tens frame and also coins. They have also had a chance to develop their skills in counting on and counting back in steps, comparing numbers and learning to read and write numbers up to 100, both in numerals and in words. Importantly, in every lesson, children are provided with an opportunity to practise their mathematical reasoning skills by solving real-life problems and puzzles.
