The FS2 children had a wonderful time bringing their "Under the Sea" theme to life at the Nanyuki River this week! As part of their discovery, they have been looking at various oceanic environments, from enticing rock pools to mysterious sea forests.
Since we couldn't quite make it to the coast, we brought the ocean to the Nanyuki River with our imagination. We walked through a small part of the Mt Kenya Forest, pretending we were swimming through a giant kelp forest looking for sea creatures. We had our snacks on a pebble beach, and then with fishing nets, crabbing rods and buckets we walked in the river catching insects and leaves (unfortunately no river crabs this time) and emptying and filling our buckets. Some children even tried to make a sandcastle out of the very tiny pebbles on the beach.

The children got to practice their new sea-themed vocabulary, work on their balance skills as they navigated the rocks and enjoy being together outdoors exploring a natural environment.
