This term, our FS1 children have been learning about Transport through stories, discussions, and imaginative play. We have been discovering the various ways people travel by car, bus, train, boat, and aeroplane while sharing our own exciting journey stories. The children were especially captivated by boats and the mechanics of travelling across water. We also took a step back in time to explore older modes of transport, discussing how travel has evolved over the years.
A major highlight was our classroom airport role-play. The children experienced the hustle and bustle of checking in luggage, passing through security, and preparing to board a flight. It was wonderful to hear them using 'talk' to organise their play, take on different roles, and weave together storylines about their far-off destinations.

In Mathematics, we have recently focused on measurement and weight. Through hands-on investigation, the children explored a range of indoor and outdoor materials to identify which objects were 'heavy' and which were 'light.' They loved predicting and testing their theories using weighing scales, their own bodies, and even the playground seesaw!

To conclude the week, we enjoyed a thrilling Show and Tell session. A parent kindly visited to demonstrate a water rocket launch, which sparked immense curiosity. The children watched with wide eyes as the rocket was prepared and launched, leading to a flurry of questions about how things travel into the sky. It was a spectacular way to end the week, supporting their natural curiosity about the world and leaving everyone thrilled as the rocket blasted off!
