Orange, Orange, Orange!

2nd March 2023

The FS1 children have been focussing on the colour orange over the Colours Fortnight. They have learnt that the colour orange was named after the orange fruit. They dived deep into exploring and investigating things that were orange; they explored and looked at colour mixing, using both paint and play-dough and discovered that yellow and red make orange.

The children made orange juice and learnt that changes occurred in different materials. They enjoyed counting, washing and squeezing the oranges and this helped strengthen their fine motor control. As they worked with the oranges, their team work was enhanced as well as collaboration and good listening skills when listening to instructions.

After reading ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’ by Judith Kerr, the children were able to talk about a tiger’s colours and they also had fun making face masks that they used for role play. The week finished off by writing a letter to the Tiger asking him to join them for a tea party, but sadly he was too busy to attend. Maybe next time! He clearly hasn't heard how fun it is in FS1!
