This week, BNIS transformed into a hub of imagination, creativity, and ground-breaking discoveries as we celebrated STEAM Week, centered around the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as students engaged in hands-on learning, exploring sustainability and innovation in action.
Early Years experimented with dissolving substances in water, discovering the difference between pure and impure materials.
Year 1 investigated why fruits turn brown when exposed to air, uncovering the science of oxidation and testing ways to slow it down with vinegar and water while Year 2 designed sustainable smart cities, tackling urban expansion and eco-friendly infrastructure.
Year 3 focussed on clean energy solutions, designing structures featuring solar panels and wind turbines whereas Year 4 explored responsible consumption, debating food packaging, processed vs. unprocessed foods, and the benefits of buying local.
Year 5 examined sustainable neighbourhoods, taking a first hand look at practical recycling solutions during a visit to a plastic recycling plant in Nairobi. Year 6 put chemistry to the test, experimenting with homemade fire extinguishers and discovering that baking powder is the most effective due to its carbon dioxide release.
KS3 students envisioned futuristic sustainable cities, addressing environmental challenges through cutting-edge designs.
The week was an inspiring showcase of innovation, sustainability, and problem-solving. The creativity, dedication, and enthusiasm of our students were truly remarkable!
