The Scouts have started the term on a high note, setting the tone for an exciting year ahead. Our first gathering was all about reconnecting after the holidays, welcoming new members, and introducing our Akelas (teachers) to the patrol. Energy and laughter filled the session as we played games and selected roles for the year; from assistant patrol leaders and quartermasters to first aiders, treasurers, flag raisers and even cheerleaders.
Next came the thrill of putting practical skills into action. With safety always first, the Scouts learned how to handle pocket knives responsibly, using them to whittle skewers. We then gathered around to light a fire correctly and responsibly, ending the session with a sweet treat; roasted marshmallows that everyone enjoyed together.
The biggest highlight so far was a special visit from the Welsh Guards of BATUK, who generously shared their time and expertise with us. The Scouts were thrilled to learn new marching drills and to watch the professionals showcase their impressive skills. It was an inspiring and memorable experience that left the children eager to practise and excited for the future.
With such a strong start, the Scouts are ready for a year full of growth, adventure and discovery!
