This term, Year 1 children have been learning all about the seasons through fun and exciting activities. From spotting sea creatures and making their own ice creams for summer, to reading The Leaf Thief in autumn, they explored the changing seasons in creative ways.
In English, the children became little detectives as they tried to solve the mystery of The Leaf Thief. They thought someone at BNIS was stealing leaves, so they made wanted posters and put them around the school.
They even crept out to the school field to find the thief. In the end, they found him — but it turned out he wasn’t stealing at all. He was just collecting leaves to help keep the school clean! The children learned an important lesson: don’t jump to conclusions!
For their winter project, the children worked together to build an igloo. They decorated it with fake snow and soft white walls, then climbed inside to enjoy their cosy creation, dreaming of a warm cup of hot chocolate.
A big highlight this term was the amazing trip to Ole samara. The children went on a nature walk, stepped into the river to collect rocks, and were excited to see colobus monkeys. They also met farm animals like cows, goats, bunnies, ducks, and turkeys.
They fed goldfish, spotted tadpoles, went on a scavenger hunt, and ended the day with a swim. A big thank you to the Meserve family for hosting us and making it such a special day!
It’s been a wonderful term of learning, fun, and new discoveries in Year 1. We can’t wait for more adventures next term!
