Staging a Midsummer's Night's Dream

21st January 2022

This block in English lessons, Year 7 and Year 8 students are delving into the world of Shakespeare and theatre. As part of their learning, they are busy rehearsing for their own performance of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This abridged, child-friendly play is a comedy full of magic, mischief and even a love spell or two.

Students are learning that staging a play takes a lot of work. They are busy memorising their lines and stage positions. In music lessons, students are learning songs for the performance and in art lessons, they will be making some of the props. This weekend a few volunteered to spend a Saturday morning putting their artistic talents to good use. Under the expert guidance of Mrs Bebbington they designed and painting a wonderful backdrop that truly sets the stage for a moonlit Athenian forest.

All of their hard work will pay off at the start of February when students will give two performances: one for the other students and one for parents.
