Swim Team Superstars

16th September 2021

This week marked the eagerly awaited return of swimming training for selected children from Year 2 to 8.

For many of our team, this was a return to the pre-COVID training they knew and loved, but for some, particularly the youngest swimmers, this was a new endeavour - a big step up from their normal swimming lessons...

The countdown to training began for children as they received their offers to join the squad - everyone was incredibly excited to learn that this year the Swimming Coaches have introduced a second training session each week for Years 3 and up, hopefully enough to carry on BNIS’ impressive track record in Swimming Galas once we are allowed to compete again.

Children in year 2 were amazed at the size of the pool at neighbouring Brickwoods school, where our squad has been invited to train in order to improve their fitness and endurance in the impressive 25m pool; one of our youngest athletes even told Mr Masafu that she was feeling nervous after seeing such a big training pool, but to her joy, those fears were soon put to rest as she joined the others in swimming end to end without even breaking a sweat!

True to form, our swimmers have put in a fantastic effort in their first week back at training, although there were definitely a few tired looking children following the first session… the price of a relaxing break over the school holidays!

Remember that for those students who didn’t make it into the squad this time round, there is nothing that a little hard work and determination can’t do; keep working hard and practising your stroke and it could be you that receives that coveted training invite next time!
