The BNIS Staff had been looking forward to the festive holidays, especially after such a long term. Have you ever wonder what teachers get up to on their holidays? Some of the staff travelled to different countries to be closer to family while others had family come and visit them in Kenya and some adventured around Kenya, making the most of being in this beautiful country at a magical time of year.
Here are some highlights of the holidays from some of our staff members:
My family and I were out and about visiting some places we have never been to before. It was great having ample time to relax with extended family members, seeing beautiful sceneries, experiencing different weather and different cultures. The most exciting part for me was being on a zip line at a park in Machakos county. - Ms Kamau
Ms Visili was in charge of feeding her family over Christmas and made a ginormous serving of pilau.
Mrs House and her family travelled back to the UK for the holidays and enjoyed some snow! They even went sledging.
Ms Waikwa also had a big family reunion during the break, can you spot her amoung her family members in the photo?
Miss Musundi travelled to the UK to visit friends. She spent a day as a London tourist. Do you recognise any of these iconic British landmarks?
Mrs Flowers and her family spent time exploring the National Parks.
At the beginning of the holidays, myself, as leader of the Eiti Management Team, together with my community members, participated in donating hay to one of the areas that was highly affected by the prolonged drought that is wreaking havoc in most parts of Kenya. We gave out food (maize flour) to families that were affected most and also gave sanitary towels to the Maasai girls. A wonderful way to give back. - Mr Kurito
Over the holidays, I spent time at the beach with my family, water skiing, soaking in the sun, sea and family time. My friends and I got to see a singer that I love perform live over New Years. I had seen that he likes to wear bucket hats and so I decided to crochet three bucket hats for us to wear to his performance. We managed to get to the very front of the stage and we gave him the hat, which he wore for the rest of his set! - Miss Harris
I went on a dhow safari for 5 nights from Lamu to Kiwayu. It was a very special opportunity to sleep on a rocking wooden boat under the full moon and stars, like sailors have been doing for hundreds of years. We did a lot of fishing. My favourite was the oceanic pufferfish. - Miss Harrison
My family and some visiting cousins went camping, hiking and climbing in eastern Laikipia over the holiday. - Mrs McKay
The teachers definitely had a well deserved break and are ready to make this term full of fun learning opportunities!
