Teeing Off to Success

5th October 2024

Last weekend, four of our school's young golfers recently participated in the IAPS 'Stowe Putter' golf tournament hosted by Pembroke House; an experience that deepened their love for the sport and offered valuable exposure to competitive play. The team, split into two groups, departed early from Nanyuki to ensure an on-time arrival for warm-up at Gilgil Golf Club's challenging brown greens.

The tournament kicked off at 10:30 am with a shotgun start, featuring a mix of skilled players, including seasoned Year 8 participants and a growing number of younger entrants. Our children, with handicaps ranging from WHS - 34.6 to default 31 for girls and 26 for boys, adapted to the new playing conditions and gradually improved throughout the day.

Despite facing intense heat and a downpour near the final hole, all but one team completed their rounds. Although Pembroke House and Kenton College secured the top positions, the tournament's true success lay in the encouragement of youth golf and fostering sportsmanship.
