The Mountain Adventure

1st May 2026

After waiting patiently since last term, our Year 3 students finally set off for their mountain expedition on the first Friday of Term 3. The air was thick with excitement as we began our journey the perfect way to bring our classroom lessons on Kenya’s mountains to life.

Our adventure started at Sirimon Gate, where we met our guides and had a quick snack before heading up to Old Moses Camp. Although the mountain peaks were "bashful" and hidden behind thick clouds, the children were thrilled to spot waterbucks and other wildlife grazing along the slopes.

Once we reached the camp and had our safety briefing, the real challenge began. Despite the biting cold and swirling fog, the Year 3s showed amazing resilience. As we hiked, we saw history in the rocks:

  • Igneous Rocks: We found physical proof of volcanic eruptions from millions of years ago.
  • Tectonic Plates: We discussed how the movement of the Earth’s surface shaped the landscape around us.

The hike certainly kept us warm, and our timing was perfect! We reached shelter just as the rain began to pour. We spent a lovely lunch hour inside, sharing stories while listening to the rain on the roof.

We returned to school tired but happy. It was a day to remember, turning our geography lessons into a real-life adventure!
