Relationships

13th October 2023

As part of learning, the crèche children embarked on discovering new and interesting story books, and a firm favourite has been ‘The Train Ride’ by June Crebbin. Through this book, the children explored the world of relationships, trains and imagination.

As we read through the pages of the story, we explored various scenic stops portrayed in the book. Our young adventurers marvelled at the changing landscapes, from bustling cityscapes to serene meadows, sparking their curiosity and encouraging them to talk about what they see on their way to school. Relationships are a central theme in "The Train Ride," and we encouraged the children to reflect on the relationship they have with each other as well as the importance of different family members in their lives and how they help them. The children focussed in and shared stories of their own grandmothers and why they are special to them. All week, we reflected on what we were doing that demonstrated a sense of belonging and promoting our own sense of community and togetherness.

The children interact really well together and have begun to reflect on how their relationships with each other enhance their enjoyment of activities.

They then had full freedom of expression to use paper cut-out shapes to form representations of their grandmothers. Through discussion, we recognised their uniqueness in their art as well as comparing features of each of their grandmothers.

We hope you enjoy these samples of our art.
