Thoughts on Canvas

6th November 2025

Six children, selected from previous competition entries and clearly passionate about art, attended the KAIS Art Fair in Nairobi on the 5th of November. It was a calm and enjoyable event. Each participating school was allocated a small tent and given two display boards, one to showcase artwork created prior to the event and one for pieces made on the day.

The theme for Upper Primary was Emotions at a Sports Event, and for Lower Primary, Mother and Child. It was a timed art competition, and the children were counted down to begin. All of them worked with wonderful focus for an hour and a half while children from Rusinga walked around to observe them at work. When it was over, they had some time to run around and relax while the judges made their decisions.

The children performed exceptionally well, earning three recognitions: Irfaan received a Special Mention in the Upper Primary competition, Kili won the Lower Primary competition, and Team Braeburn Nanyuki secured second place overall among the twelve competing schools.
