This week, Year 3 entered the world of watercolour in their Art lesson. Equipped with new knowledge about different techniques, they eagerly explored four distinct methods of watercolour painting: wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, dry-on-wet, and dry-on-dry.
The children began by thoroughly understanding each technique and taking time to practice them with a range of brushes. One enthusiastic child exclaimed, "this is one of the best Art lessons we have ever done!". This excitement set the tone as the children immersed themselves in their artistic endeavours.
The children were then introduced to the works of Joseph Turner, famously known as 'the painter of light.' Turner, renowned for his mastery of watercolours, would often tour Britain during the summer, capturing landscapes, and then spend his winters painting indoors. His use of light and colour provided inspiration for the children.
They created their own watercolour paintings of Lakes Baringo and Turkana. They began by sketching their landscapes and then applied the techniques they had learned, producing well thought through artwork The results filled the children with pride, showcasing not only their creativity but also their growing mastery of watercolours.
