It has been wonderful to welcome parents into school over the first few weeks of term; after such a long time staying outside, it is wonderful to be able to re-involve them into school life.
At the 'settling-in' parent-teacher meetings it was a pleasure to see parents back in classrooms. Teachers took the opportunity to share with them in-person how their children have settled into the year, as well as some of the fantastic things that they have already done at school this year. The children in Early Years absolutely loved having their parents in to play with and show around at our Meet & Play events. These provided and informal catch up opportunity for parents to talk to teachers as well as see what their children have been doing.
Mrs Gould and Mrs Awili, our Early Years Lead, hosted a 'Parent Workshop' in The Podo Theatre to discuss ‘Learning in the Early Years’. This was a brilliant opportunity for parents to gain a deeper understanding of the guiding principles that shape teaching and learning for our youngest children. There are more workshops planned for the year ahead.
Throughout the year, children will share and celebrate their learning in assemblies in front of the rest of the school as well as their parents. The Podo Theatre presents the perfect venue to be inside whilst outside and have plenty of space to enable us all to stay safe whilst we enjoy being together. The first of the year were the Year 4 children who shared what they have been doing in English around portal stories.
Followed by Year 3 who treated us to a review of their recent trip to Lewa to look at the Hand Axe site, linked to their learning on the Stone Age. It was a delight to hear about their adventure, complete with reenactments of development of man. It ended with a fantastic performance of an adapted version of We Will Rock You. We greatly look forward to the next year group assembly!
