This term in Year 4, our theme is ‘The Romans’, a fascinating historical topic that we are weaving across the curriculum. We have been captivated by the remarkable Roman inventions and their lasting impact on the modern world. From aqueducts to roads, we are exploring how Roman innovation continues to shape our daily lives.
Creativity is at its peak in Art, Design and Technology as we design and make shields and helmets in readiness for our upcoming assembly. The excitement is palpable as we bring ancient Roman attire and artistry to life through hands-on learning.

Our Science lessons have become a buzzing laboratory of discovery as we explore how sounds are made. We have been investigating how vibrations travel through different states of matter, and were fascinated to learn that particles in solids are packed closely together, allowing vibrations to travel quickly. In contrast, particles in liquids are spaced farther apart, and the forces between them are weaker than in solids. The vibrations still occur, but are less orderly. In gases, the particles are far apart and move freely and quickly in all directions. Their vibrations are rapid and in a random motion. We have also learned about the structure of the ear and how it captures sounds from our environment. It has truly been a beehive of scientific enquiry and excitement.

As Mathematicians, we are developing our fluency and accuracy when subtracting up to four-digit numbers. Pupils are mastering efficient written methods and learning how to exchange when subtraction is not possible in a given column. Our growing confidence with these strategies is a testament to our hard work and perseverance.

Finally, we have been presenting our amazing, unique homemade electrical innovations from our Electricity topic that we covered before half term. For sure, we are potential future engineers!
