Wildlife Ranger Challenge

22nd September 2022

Last Saturday was the Wildlife Ranger Challenge, it saw ninety-four wildlife ranger teams across sixteen countries unite to complete half marathons all in aid of raising funds for the men and women who are on the front line of Africa’s protected areas.

Local to us, the Mount Kenya Trust took part in this global event organising a run through the Marania Forest. There was an option to complete 5,10km and 21km. Braeburn Nanyuki was proud to have runners in all categories. Our teachers led the way with Miss Harrison storming the 21km, Mrs Bebbington making light work of the 10km and Mrs Walby enjoying the 5km. We had children taking part from across the BNIS community from alumni down to FS2.

The Mount Kenya Trust Horse Patrol Team were central to this event and rode the course, providing encouragement to runners along the way. Four Mount Kenya Trust rangers completed the 21km, carrying whooping 22kg backpacks, with an evaluation of over 3,000M this was no mean feat!

We hope to encourage our children to take an active role in conserving our environment and for them to understand the pressures local to us, such as those that these Rangers face daily.
