World Book Day 2024

9th March 2024

I opened a book and in I strode.

Now nobody can find me.

I've left my chair, my house, my road,

My town and my world behind me.

I'm wearing the cloak, I've slipped on the ring,

I've swallowed the magic potion.

I've fought with a dragon, dined with a king

And dived in a bottomless ocean.

I opened a book and made some friends.

I shared their tears and laughter

And followed their road with its bumps and bends

To the happily ever after.

I finished my book and out I came.

The cloak can no longer hide me.

My chair and my house are just the same,

But I have a book inside me.

Thursday 7th March, saw everyone arrive at school looking quite different to usual…out went the school uniforms and in came a dazzling array of book characters!

We began the day with a parade to take a look at everyone’s costumes, which proved extremely difficult for the judges, who were blown away by the thought and effort that went into the costumes. This was followed by a mix of different activities, all linked to Julia Donaldson books. The children were put into mixed groups and rotated around, doing activities like making witches’ wands or Superworms out of play dough, building a lego house like that in A Squash and a Squeeze or going on a Rosie’s Hat-based treasure hunt.

We also decorated our classroom doors, again with a Julia Donaldson theme, and all the classes enjoyed looking at their peers’ efforts. Some extra reading topped off a fun, bookish day!
