Year 2 Activity

Year 2 children have been learning how to write clear instructions in our English lessons this term, through the 'Talk for Writing' approach.

They linked this genre of writing to DT lessons, by reading and following instructions in the form of a recipe. After following many steps, they were able to create and taste their delicious creations. After talking about the tastes they experienced, the children were then inspired to create their own fruit shape poems using adjectives and similes.

In Maths, they are sharpening their skills in multiplication and division-related tasks. They have enjoyed playing games and using manipulatives to derive meaning from these new concepts.

Our Science lessons have sparked a lot of curiosity. The children were excited to ask scientific questions, especially regarding seed germination, photosynthesis, and some plant defence mechanisms. They are now aware of the various facets of working scientifically and are deeply engaged in setting several fair tests on plants to see what they need to grow healthily.

Our investigations are ongoing as they observe over time, and some of the discoveries happening are mind-blowing...like how quickly the orientation or colour of a plant can change! On a daily basis, children observe and measure how tall their seedlings are and keep a record of what their seedlings look like.

This week has been exceptionally exciting as the children were busy preparing for World Book Day. They loved reading a collection of Julia Donaldson’s books and were engrossed while drawing their favourite characters in the two books we chose in readiness for our the Door Decoration Competition.
