Year 3 Explore Under Their Feet

18th September 2020

The geographers of Year Three have started the new academic year with a Big Bang. We are learning about what exactly is under our feet, beyond the carpet, tiles, concrete, wood, mud or grass we stand on. We first learned about the different layers of soil: humus, top soil, sub soil and finally bedrock. Then we went even deeper into the centre of the Earth, learning about the four layers that make up planet Earth. You can see the model Earths we made using coloured playdough to help us get a better idea of the proportions of each layer: the crust, the mantle, the outer core and finally the inner core. We now look forward to learning about what happens when the Earth’s tectonic plates move.
