Year 5 and 6 Author Interview

1st July 2022

Having thoroughly enjoyed reading Varjak Paw and The Outlaw Varjak Paw by S F Said, Year 5 had the fantastic idea to try and arrange an online interview with the author himself…

Children excitedly began preparations for a bakesale in order to raise money for the cost of the interview, tying in with Year 5’s PSHE work where they have learnt about real world finances through their ‘Class Economy’.

On Thursday afternoon this week, children from both Years 5 and 6 (who had read and loved the book last year), gathered together to speak with S F Said online. There were a range of insightful questions, covering topics such as the highs and lows of writing your own novels, the real life influences on book characters, and books and films which had served as inspiration.

In addition to this insightful question and answer session, S F Said shared a preview of his new book, Tyger, which I’m sure many of our children will be rushing to buy when it is released later this year!

It was a thrilling way to end the day and children loved the chance to chat with the man behind their much loved book. Thank you to S F Said for giving us his time and to Mrs Lettsome for arranging such a fantastic opportunity.
