Year 5 Campout

Last Friday, the Year 5’s had a fabulous time at their campout in the BNIS quad! They felt extra special having the privilege to stay after school and sleep in tents.

We have been learning about Earth and Space this term in Science. Prior to the campout, we researched the moon phases and which phase it would be in that night. Unfortunately, we were not able to see the moon until the early morning hours as it was on the wrong side of the earth in the evening! However, using telescopes we did get to look for different star constellations that we had learned about and even look at the names through some fun iPad apps!

We had so much fun throughout our time together! We started the evening off by playing lots of fun group games. We then had a pizza dinner delivered and got ourselves ready for the movie. The students went and found perfect sticks to toast marshmallows. We watched the space themed movie E.T. once it got dark. Despite being a classic, it was the first time watching it for many of the children! After the movie we stuffed our faces with more toasted marshmallows and did some stargazing. We ended the night beyond most people's usual bedtimes, but it was a perfect finish with Mrs. Gould reading us all a bedtime story.
