Some may remember finding learning about decimals challenging but that is not the case in Year 5 thanks to Place Value Concertinas!
The children have been working for the last few weeks to develop a really good grasp of how decimals work. They started the topic whilst learning remotely but are now getting more 'hands-on' with numbers to secure their understanding of what has been learned so far.
The place value concertinas have pockets to help display a number and enforce understanding of what each digit represents. Numbers can be represented from 0 to 99,999.999 and the concertinas help children easily see the value of each digit from ten thousand to the thousandth position.
The children have enjoyed playing with numbers and have really embedded their understanding of place value. They even challenged their peers to work out specific numbers based on the values they gave through hints.
