Year 6 Visit Tafaria Castle

20th June 2025

We set off on Thursday morning and were greeted by clear skies and the magical sight of the castle on the hill. Once we arrived, the children eagerly checked into their rooms and settled in before heading out for some well-deserved fun. The afternoon was spent enjoying the swimming pool, trying out the outdoor gym, bouncing on the Viking’s Pillow, competing at mini golf, and challenging each other to games of 8-ball pool. Laughter and energy filled the air!

After a short break - with hot chocolate and delicious doughnuts - we headed to the Tafaria Museum, where our learning brains switched back on. The children explored exhibits linked to the theory of evolution and reflected on how communication methods have changed over time, making strong links to our recent classwork.

Next, we visited the Tafaria Herbarium, where the children learned about the flora of the area and how botanists classify different plants and trees. It was an eye-opening experience that brought our science topics to life in a very real and beautiful setting.

In the evening, we visited the Technology Centre - an experience that truly bridged the gap between past and future. The children met a local animator, got a glimpse into 3D printing, and even had a conversation about AI and its role in the world of tomorrow. A remarkable amount of learning was packed into one afternoon!

After a busy day, it was time for a well-earned rest.

On Friday morning, we were up bright and early for a 7:30am breakfast, followed by room clear-out and bags packed. But the excitement didn’t end there. Our first activity of the day was pottery, where the children got to practise techniques they’d learned at school in a new and creative setting. This was followed by horse and carriage rides, which brought huge smiles to everyone’s faces.

After a delicious lunch, our final challenge was archery - a chance for focus, fun, and a little friendly competition.

The trip was an outstanding success: full of laughter, discovery, and new experiences. We returned to school tired but happy, with plenty of stories to tell. No doubt, this will be a highlight of the year that our Year 6 students will remember for a long time to come.
