Young Leaders

24th September 2021

The excitement of the return of prefects was only topped by the fact that this year children in Year 8 were asked to apply for specific roles in order to become part of Braeburn Nanyuki’s Junior Leadership Team. This team is made up of our Head Boy and Head Girl, three House Captains, a Marketing Lead, two Social Leads, a Special Events Lead, a Charity Lead and an Eco Lead. They will be supported by our School Council that features an elected representative from each year group. Well done to all the children who have become junior leaders this year.

To mark the occasion, our newly elected Junior Marketing Leader has been very busy this week, interviewing staff and students about how they have found the beginning of this academic year; here are some of their responses:

What is your favourite thing about BNIS?

I love playtime! There are so many things to do and to play with - my favourite thing is definitely tree climbing. It’s so much more fun now too because we can play with all of the children in our bubble so long as our masks are on and we are keeping distance.

What is your favourite lesson?

Lunchtime!

(Editor’s note: my goodness how cheeky?! The big question is…. Was this staff or student?)

What does BNIS have to offer?

So much fun! I love playing with all my friends and getting to be outdoors as much as possible. Our teachers always try to make lessons creative and it means we all really enjoy learning new things, especially when we are learning about Nanyuki and Laikipia.

What is the best thing about teaching at BNIS?

The children, obviously! Aside from that, it is so wonderful to go home at the end of the day knowing that I have shared my passions with so many of the children… I love to see the excitement on children’s faces when they finally grasp that tricky concept, or manage to work out the answer to à question that they thought was impossible.

What is your favourite club at school?

Anything sporty! I especially love football, it’s so much fun to play against friends and to watch my skills improve from all the drills we do - I can’t wait until we can start competing against other schools again.
